Editors’ note: People are by nature optimists or pessimists: they are either anticipating that something over the hill is going to be better or negatively anticipating the future. Some people have optimism in their essence, coming from a happy-go-lucky family. Their attitude would be a reasonably good one, taking the most hopeful view of matters. It is probably better to be optimistic than to always look on the black side, but neither attitude is balanced. The aim is to be realistic – to be objective.
