The Veils Tradition

Allah hath Seventy Thousand Veils of Light and Darkness: were He to withdraw their curtain, then would the splendours of His Aspect surely consume everyone who apprehended Him with his sight.

There are always veils between you and God, separating you from the realisation of God. The key to removing the veils will come from your understanding. To realise God is one of your main aims, but you have to start at the beginning and try to understand God through self-remembrance. You try to remember your real self which is a part of God.

Each person should try to recognise his own veils and understand them for himself. Your main veil may work through one of your senses, or through all of them. Really, your main veil is your identification with the body as your self. All the teeming negativities come from this – it clouds the issue for you through the senses, lusts and desires. And your desires are what prevent you from seeing that you are not your body.

Of course, the veils are God as well. When you reach real understanding and know that you are not your body, you realise that God is everything and therefore there can be no pairs of opposites. Then there is no black and white, everything is God.
