Abdul:  You have mentioned the case of a couple in the USA who carried out a spiritual task that Hazrat Inayat Khan had given them so that years later he was able to guide them to the next stage. There are people who find it difficult to sell up house, leave their jobs etc. to go to a teacher who may be some distance away, yet we know a teacher is necessary. How close and constant does the connection need to be between teacher and pupil?.

Abdullah: Allah knows! Wherever you find the work is the right place for you to start your struggle. The Sufi teaching presupposes the person will have a teacher because this is the way they usually operate; however, for some time a person's teacher may be books, or delving into the esoteric side of their ordinary religion. When the pupil is ready he will find his teacher, because God will lead them to each other.
